I have never made myself a knife!

A growing number of collectors customize their automatic knives by changing scales, bolsters, blades, doing fileworks, ... Wether you're a guru or just a wannabe knife modder, this is the place to discuss it!

I have never made myself a knife!

Post by Bill DeShivs »

I have made custom knives for many years.
I have made prototypes, fixed blades, assembled knives, decorated and modified knives, etc.

But, I have never made a pocketknife to carry! I just thought about that tonight.
I carry a Swiss Army knife, and a SOG Flash 1 that I modified to automatic.

I'm going to clear a few projects for others up and take about a month off to do some things for me. I have several guns that I want to engrave, some shop updates to do, and I think I'll design and make myself a small carry knife.

Would you be able to show some of the gun engraving. I have always admired the Colt engravers from the past.

Interested to see what you come up with. Gonna be hard to top the Leverletto imo.

giving time to yourself is always a good thing, I to carry a swiss army knife, and a beat up Leverletto, that still works at 100%, perhaps I may get a new one soon

Never could draw worth a darn. My brother was an artist.
I can make a picture-with a lot of erasing and corrections.

Hand engraving leaves so little margin for error.
Your work looks pretty darn good to me, Bill.
Southeastern Mass, Taunton in particular was home to a lot of engravers; it was known as Silver City for all the silver tableware manufacturers in the area back then.
Unfortunately, it seems to be a dying art these days.
Lasers can be far more accurate than hand work, but somehow it comes across as kind of soulless. :(
