I just ran across an old Bladeforums thread about the venerable "007" type knives. Some of the anecdotes are amusing, so I decided to post the link here:

This thread began Aug 2013 and ended Dec 2020.
The very last post mentions that these knives are derived from a Ka-bar model. I have a couple of those; including one that I bought almost fifty years ago. Also several of the Japanese versions. Of course, China is making them now. A seller on eBay is offering a China model for the bargain price of $120.
I'm mildly curious as to how many different versions are known. I've seen quite a few different versions from Japan; and I'm sure that many of you guys own these things. Can we start a photo array here of all the different versions? I'll post mine as soon as I dig them out.....

I am sure I posted in the old threads on these. I have a few dozen of the Kabar 1179s and dozens of different Japan models in at least three sizes. There were several makers in Japan and different quality. There some some from Brazil also back then.....

specific Japanese (or Brazilian) models with
specific manufacturers / distributors, I would love
to see photos and names!
JV ~~ me too.... I always thought of these as "camp knives" -- useful for general chores at a campsite.
It was eye-opening to read of their popularity with NYC thugs and muggers.
The one thing in that thread that baffled me was the mention of how easy it is to flick open these knives.
Huh? Not any of the ones I've ever seen. Impossible.

I will try to take a few pictures ASAP. The USA KaBar 1179s were not easy to flick open for the most part. but the Japan ))&s ( and other with the same design but different names on the handles) all could flick open as they broke in.
