Disassemble a “Frank B Switch”?

Post by Bartlow »

I’m looking at one of the Frank B Switch knives. They have cast zinc liners that are plated and they appear to be entirely assembled with tiny brass screws. Not a traditional Italian style stiletto switchblade. I guess they thought these could be made cheaper and compete with Chinese made switchblades.

My question is the blade pivot also appears to be a brass screw. Is that right? If so it looks like it was screwes in and then the head was cut off. I can probably figure out a way to unscrew everything if everything is a screw. But some help would be appreciated.

This knife is an abomination. I just want to rob it of its blade.

It should be all screws.

Thank you! I will proceed. Banging on a screw like it’s a pin is not helpful.

If the pivot doesn't have a screw slot, you will have to file/grind the bolster until the head is removed.

If anyone wonders how this turned out, on the knife I have the pivot was not threaded. It was a pin with giant heads. Which I believe Bill said would have to be drilled or ground or otherwise removed. That is how it was and that is what I did . I see pictures on the internet of these having threads on the pivot so I think it’s possible that the construction of these varies.
The blade pivot hole is 4mm. Larger than usual. So recycling the blade in another knife may require a bushing.
