Latama new custom
The new custom Latama knives looked really great. Who ever is doing the new ones hit the nail on the head with those. They sold fast.
Re: Latama new custom
I think there's some still available. I'm curious about the new pinless construction on the elite classic series just introduced
Re: Latama new custom
According to the internet they are being made by Tom Wright, Wright Bladeworks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlGvR0IbQ-Q
In the videos he says he attaches the scales on the pinless ones by putting a threaded insert into the back of the scale and secures it to the side of the knife with a tiny screw.
They are way out of my financial means.

I like Tom's knives alot, great work. I left comments in the past. I don't know how to get ahold of him.. 4 of those he made wears my safety I been doing 30 years, but smaller, much nicer!! Good!!! I sent Walt detailed pics of my safety and it's construction for anyone to use if they liked it and hoping they do. I share all my file patterns too. Factory safety aren't my favorite. About mine Walt says "Ill have to get use to it" >;
Now I don't have to post pics, Walt did! I made the first 4 on the page (link above). Note in description "Shawn hermit B", shawneeb? One he calls plastic bone is ivory micarta, not plastic bone. (I sent all exact details with the knives, but i dont write his description.) The blue ones called "once upon a blue moose" because it's blue and that is my "moose antler" fireworks I designed in Maine. The red one was ""cinnamon girl". Note the button and safety on that one is copper to match the red scale/copper wire. Others safety and button center are nickel silver. The buttons are my rendition of a flower, daisy. Not fond of jewels in buttons, but have.
Walt and I been playing phone tag. He wants more. I enjoy talking with him, character. Has a dry humor I enjoy. Both hands unusable for a period, rt carpal, left thumb has a mind of its own! Getting worn out from so much hand work at 70 I guess but I keep going long as I can. Soooooo, want a "hermit" grab one.

Descriptions are off some, Walt must not write the description and/or send the detailed details I included. All 4 had cool names Walt liked. All liners are "coined" not rope. The faux pearl is "rope" firework. Blue is "moose antler". Red is "standard thorn/vine" ? Ivory micarta is a "modified thorn"
Actually the first time I even looked once I sent them! Anxious for Tom's to be there, tube vid was only 2 days old Walt may not have them yet.

I would love to know how the safety works. A spring and ball bearing detent is easy to understand but how to tuck it in a tight delicate spot is not!
Re: Latama new custom
I'm getting better on photos and will post it here. Basically picture submarine from the side. Conning tower (sail) sticks out the scale. Shorter in front, top slides under the button blocking it. Under the nose it's filed to clear the button rear assy and rivet. A 1/8 inch slot milled in the scales to ride right. I use 1/8" stock, Tom used thinner stock. I like it better.

Re: Latama new custom
I would love to see some pictures. I sort of imagine something like the safety at the rear of the receiver on a Mossberg 500 shotgun. But the detent (a ball bearing and a coil spring) takes up a bunch of room. The detent and the thumb slide are connected to a metal receiver, not to a scale on a knife which is made out of horn or wood or plastic, all soft and delicate. I would think ideally a good safety for a knife would be hooked to the metal liner, not the scale. The typical Italian safety is just a piece of metal that rides free in the scale, and is (maybe) jammed under the button that opens the blade when it is activated. That would never be secure or reliable enough for a firearm, but of course a knife is not a firearm. It seems like there could be something on the liner, but it would have to be small.
