Above the Ivory handle Sheffield humpback there are the pieces of a large flatguard. What size is that one? And how common is it for the guards to be pinned to the liners like that?

Some have a pin through the top guards to prevent the backspring being raised too high.

That was to prevent the bounce back too far thing? I saw a JPL that someone did that to.

It was original. Just to keep ham-handed Americans from bending the backspring too far.

I'm being harassed by Orangboy via private email, telling me that no stilettos were made with the pin through the top guards. I can assure you that some were, as I have seen them and worked on them. The one in the picture was originally made that way.
