AGA N/S tarnish
Why do the AGA knives tarnish so fast? Is there a way to slow the process? Do you recommend polishing? If so what do I use?

I use Simichrome polish. There are others, like Flitz, Mothers, etc.
Never Dull magic Wadding is also useful.
A coat of paste wax after polishing will retard tarnishing-as will wiping the bolsters down after handling.

AGA use nickel silver on many of their knives. It’s the silver part that tarnishes. Stainless steel bolsters do not tarnish as nickel silver does, but nickel silver in my opinion is so much more attractive.

There is no silver in nickel silver.

Renaissance Wax might do a good job on this. It is widely used on metals in museums, collectible guns, etc.

A jeweler's rouge cloth brightens-up NS bolsters and brass liners nicely.
Re: AGA N/S tarnish
I recall reading some about 18% silver, a lot of copper and nickel. I’m glad there was no test obviously I would have failed.

Who knew nickel silver had no silver? Thanks everyone!
Re: AGA N/S tarnish
Hi Eveeyone,
I googled NS. The article listed the metals used in NS: nickel 18%, copper 60% and zinc 22%.
What causes the tarnish?...copper?

Copper tarnishes. The nickel and zinc prevent it tarnishing as quickly.

In AGA's case it is not working.
