C.JulHerbertz IMPORT2

Post by gravknife »

Well I thought i would post my last switchblade that made it safely through the gauntlet.

I am not too familiar with the marking but its a definite transitional on the lines of my other IMPORT marked knives......It has nickel silver mounts ,lined swivel bolster,2 piece spring and D stamped liners.

Like most of the smaller transitional switches it fires hard and fast and is very well built. The pearlex scales look a bit dirty ,I think the liners have corrosion and being translucent it shows through the pearlex. The knife had a bad bend in the tip and was very dirty overall with rust on the blade and pitting in the bolsters due to poor storage over its 50 + years of existence.

Its marked with C.Jul.Herbertz over IMPORT2 and on the reverse ROSTFREI in a box.I have seen a few knives marked with Import and a number namely an Import 2 and Import 4 and wondered if anyone knew their meaning....ie certain countries allocated numbers etc.

Heres a few pictures .
I hope things pick up around here for everybody ,it really is a great place to learn and ask about switchblades for anyone thinking of joining.

My best to you all

I believe the "Import" marking was used in England.

Nice one! Is that a 7" Herbertz? I have/had one like it with lighter colored scales, and does have a red-dot safety. A niece liked it so I gave it to her, need to get it back for a few pics :D

Love the scales. Always liked the light green and tan translucent scales. Very nice indeed.

The lock tab says no to a BO/BC, but sure looks like a picklock to me. Ian describes it as a transitional which I thought were always swivel bolsters. These old eyes of mine have a hard time telling if that line between the front bolster and scale is straight across or room to swivel.
*EDIT*- I should learn to read "Lined swivel bolster"...wow, my eyes ARE bad!

You probably need some cheaters in your glasses. If the picture is at an angle it's hard to see the scale sometimes to see the curve. At least for me.

Thanks for the kind comments here Bill,Sammy thom,Panzerfaust JulesVane and texans 123 they mean a lot .

The knife is a swivel bolster transitional .When I first saw it I thought it was a picklock myself, but with many transitional knives its hard to tell and the line appears almost straight from swivel bolster to scale, check through transitional topics here.

Bill ...that's interesting about the Import stamp being related to Britain, I had never heard that about these before so thanks a lot for the info.Wish they would allow me to import them here now more freely.
I hope all's well for you my freind.

Sammy I was shxxxxng myself waiting for this one :? ....I had bought it on ebay on Sunday and the police came Monday night with the letters and threats.
As for the contraband mate I may just cut down like I did with my cigarettes to quit...,I'll start with 13 inches and work my way down to the minis :)
No seriously mate I think this is it ....too risky over here at the minute as numerous stabbings (not one with a switchblade) have made it very hard for me to continue.

texans123 ...Sorry for not putting the size it is as yo say a 7 incher,I always have liked the Import knives super quality and a great kick with a 2 piece slip in spring..

Hope your all well and keep the forum going ,New collectors will need it.

All the best
Ian

Hi Ian - here is the 7" C.Jul Herbertz Rostfrei I mentioned previously. My niece brought it by and I got a quick set of pics before the rains started. Not the best pics but OK. It's a nice little swivel bolster.
