Waltco Saf-T-Sheath Outdoor Knife

Post by JimBrown257 »

I just got this knife which, for all intents and purposes, is a butterfly knife. They either didn't want to call it a "butterfly" or "balisong" because they were marketing it as a fishing knife (it's even got a scaler on the back of the blade) or they didn't want to associate it with a weapon.

It's a "Waltco Saf-T-Sheath Outdoor Knife". It's from the 40s. It's a very well made knife, made in the USA. I especially like the little coil latch; it is much better than the little t-bar that most butterlies have and don't stay in place. You can flip it just like any good balisong.

Has anyone seen one of these or know anything about them?

Looks like it would hurt your hand to open.
This is the magic incantation congress uses to constantly violate the 10th Amendment - "...the manufacture, sale, transportation, distribution, possession, or introduction into interstate commerce of such shall be prohibited"

It definitely lacks the sleak aerodynamics of the more fashionable balis.

I went to clean the top pin on the front right handle. I thought it was covered with rust but when I went to clean it up, it just disinitigrated. A pin had been lost (it must have been decades ago) and someone replaced it with a wood peg/piece. It was like a log that has been underground for years; when you go to pick it up, it just crumbles into dirt.

So I made a pin from a nail that matched pretty closely. It fit perectly into the hole in the tang and functions as good as new.

You can see the difference in these two pictures.

No, not at all; why would it hurt to open this knife??

Now if you plan on closing it... :(
