1970s Pacific Cutlery Butterfly
IMO They don't make them like this anymore, no one does. After having so many clones and owning a couple real butterflys I have found that there is no comparison to the quality of these old (pre Benchmade) Pacific Cutlery knives.
I just scored an old PC10 model believed to be out of production since the late 70's. Again I was lucky to get one that seems unused and brand new.
OAL is 7 1/4" open, with very thick milled stainless skeleton handles, and like the others has a blade like a razor on it. Excellent lockup open / closed
Front tang stamped w/ the Bali Song butterfly logo, rear tang reads: US PAT NO 4,364,174 MADE IN USA.
Also w/ a larger size Pacific Cutlery (Weehawk blade), and a Benchmade 42 ( coil spring latch and titanium handles) last pic
3 Butterfly knives

I have a PC10. I did not know they were discontinued from the 70s.
Mine is in great condition, if it's really that old.

Hi,
The dates as I understand it for Pacific Cutlery knives are 1975 - 1981. The earlier type skeletonized handles like the PC10 had no bevels in the holes I think.
The International Series made outside of the USA were produced 1981 - 1986. I think these knives were etched instead of stamped and didn't offer the hidden pin.
Then Benchmade began around 1987. This is some of what I have read and heard.
Heres a neat old ad

That's a very nice knife and an awesome group picture! I agree 100 % they don´t make em like that anymore. I don´t like the look of the new benchmade stuff (5- series).
And I prefer a knife with a "kick" on the blade for ricochetts when I flip them.

Jeff,
I believe your smallest Bali was actually made in the mid-1980s. I had one just like yours that I bought new in 1985 or 1986, but unfortunately, it was stolen in 1994. I would like to own one of the early 80s Balis. I remember reading about them as a teenager, but could not afford one. Nice collection!

Why would Wilkpedia say there were no longer any made after 1981 in the USA.

Panzerfaust,
I also bought a new Bali-Song knife in the mid 80's
I think it was the model 80
the holes in handle was chamfered and handles were thinner than model 68
and all pins were machined/ground flush with handle
hope this helps
