i have a hammer brand toothpick that has very dark blade and bolsters i would like to try to bring them back to there original shine does anyone have any ideas.

Probably not a good idea on a Hammer. The handles are nickel plated stamped steel. You might try Birchwood Casey "Blue & Rust Remover"-available at most sporting goods stores.It may help on the bolsters. Don't use it on the blade, as it will ruin the temper of the steel. The blade should be flat sanded lengthwise. Start with 400 grit wet-or-dry paper, then sand with 600, 1500, 2000. Use a popsicle stick as a sanding block, and change paper often.
