Post by missaman »

Bill,
For some reason I like the edgeco lanyard pull knives
I just picked up one different from the rest.
I own three that are blade stamped
cumosa
Inox Mexico
Edgeco

I got one in today which is not the same as the others it is marked

Blade etch: Edgeco
Stamped Inox
Mexico
Please fill me in on the differing etch/stamp :?
Thanks Missaman

Maybe on a later run, Edge co. didn't want Cumosa's name on the knives?
Just guessing-

Mr Claudster,
I have three that are stamped in the blade long ways
Cumosa
inox mexico
edgeco

And one that is etched not stamped edgeco long ways
Then has a tang stamp...
inox
mexico
like a normal knife
I was just wondering why the change?
How is yours stamped?

Gentlemen;a most interesting and ingenious rig,and its been awhile since I've seen one.If memory serves me right, didn't Edgeco give these away as premiums at one time?
In their book"An Introduction to Switchblade Knives"(which I obtained from Edgeco) the Myers bros. describe the mechanism as having been patented by H.Shonnard and G.Davis in 1895..
My first pitiful attempt at springing steel, back around '68,was a clip point swingguard with a pushrod tip release. It did function, and the tip release, though hard on the tip,was easier to make than a sear lever.
I would imagine the coil spring on the lanyard pulls to have been quite durable in the long run.

This type opening system has been around for a while Brevette and schrade pull ball knives work on the same principal...
Not too practical for one hand closing or opening. :D

I also have one marked cumosa inox mexico edgeco with what appears to be a c or a horseshoe to the left of cumosa, it is stamped on the blade rather than on the tang.

Diggaway,

Yes these were a give away item by the Edge Company in the late 80's.
