Lubrication

Post by Doc Rocket »

What would be the perfect lube schedule for switches. I notice one of my Mikov’s every so often developed a bit of a slow up till I flood it with WD40 to clean it and then use some light machine oil. I believe it's peened a bit too tight and should redo the blade pivot one of these days.

I have bben using Militec lubricant with good results on my guns and knives. Breakfree works well also, and is less expensive.
The Militech does not attract dirt.

Address: Militec-1 Grease

That's the address on the free sample of oil and grease I got from them. Just ask for both the grease and oil. A little goes a long way too. Jim :D

Personally don't like WD40 as a lubricant, gathers to much dust and the likes. Graphite is great and so is Miltec and let us not forget the old 3in1 multi purpose.

Razor,

Perhaps the reason that you don't like WD-40 as a lubricant is because it wasn't designed to ba a lubricant. It was designed to eliminate / prevent corrosion. The "WD" actually stands for water displacement. Naturally, it does have some lubricating effects by virtue of the fact that it attacks corrosion and frees up stuck parts.

Razor,

It is not really a matter of correcting things, just a matter of the primary function of WD-40. As I mentioned, it does have lubricating effects.

"You can fix anything with duct tape or WD-40. If it moves and is not supposed to, use duct tape. If it is supposed to move and doesn't, use WD-40"
