Cheap switchblade: In progress

Post by LD57 »

Killgar posted a thread on a cheap leverlock he had purchased. I had seen these for sale but never could decide to try one. His review convinced me to buy one.
Pretty much every thing he said was true: a solid knife that needs some cleaning and tweaking to be even better.

I sanded and buffed the wood scales, but just wasn’t happy with the look; nice but I wanted a different look.
I used some black/turquoise scales and added some thin G-10 liners. Also etched and stonewashed the blade.
Still in progress, needs more sanding and fitting and polishing.

Looks good! I'm glad I didn't give you a bum tip.

I've thought about replacing the wood scales with coarse G10, but the fact is, I've got other knife projects ahead of that which I am still procrastinating on :D .

I look forward to seeing the final product when you're done.

Even so, at $20, it was not a big gamble.
I’ve spent a lot more and got a lot less knife a few times.

I carry mine everyday. All I did was grind off the glass breaker and inlet a bb under the lever because I couldn't get my thumb under it sometimes.
But yours is beautiful. All it takes is skill and a 20$ knife. The guy I worked for once, would put his name on it and sell for 100's$.

Thanks!
Yeah if I screw up a $20 knife, I won’t kick myself.
I’m slowly working up my courage to work on a couple of my Italian switchblades that have bug-bitten Buffalo horn scales.

I think that your enhancements are the way these knives are meant to look and operate. Beautiful work. Look forward to seeing more of your future work.
