How did they do the heating on the stainless springs? And is the much lower backspring pin because the stainless backspring is harder to pull back so it requires the extra leverage?

Possibly so. I have replaced springs in at least 2 of these, so I'll say the stainless is pretty hard. I used 440C and pretty much H/T ed like 1095, and it worked well-springy and a little softer than carbon steel.

Does it seem like the stainless kicksprings break more often than non-stainless ones?

I can't really say, because almost all knife leaf springs are carbon.
I have seen 2 of these knives-both with broken springs.

Don't know. It has some early and some late traits.
The button assembly is one piece like the steel Coricamas. It has a coil button spring, aluminum pins, and a dovetailed kickspring. Traits like this don't always mean an item dates from a certain era. The very fact that they are stainless says later.
If I had to guess, I would say early-mid 1950s-but they could be much later. Many innovative designs were done after 1958, and are very rare in the US.

Post more pics. I'd like to see more of those old English parts if you have any of those.

I think a lot of people here enjoy looking at the pictures but may not have a lot to say or comment on. Please continue posting this pictorial journal of your knife making and repairing skills. Few of us are so blessed with talent.

Post them here where we can all see them and they will be saved for posterity (or at least for however long the image hosting sites decide to honor their commitments).
