Broken shur snap

Post by portlandmike »

I was just about to send a stiletto off to Bill for restoration when I given this 7 inch shur snap with a broken spring. It has great horn but I doubt it will be worth the cost of repair… Just wondering what you guys think ... thanks in advance, Mike

I would say that it is. Most have handles that are severely shrunken. Yours looks very good.

I'm thinking that must be rescaled if it is real horn.
When it is closed can you pull the blade up to see if it will "peek" under spring pressure? If it does come up above liners you might want to skip putting in a spring.

I get no movement at all when I pull up on the blade while locked…

That's not horn. It's the original plastic handles.

I don't remember these with this color scales either. Much cooler than the more normal solid colors. 8)

Definitely get that one fixed up. If that is an aluminum button it is one of the older models.

Nice one, Jeremy. I wish that I had one like that. Talk about the "great American pocket knife". That has to be it.

That's a classic 1950s American switchblade that was available everywhere in the U.S. in the 1950s whereas the Italian stilettos were only available in big cities or by mail order. My late father once told me he had a switchblade in the early 1950s and it was probably a Shur-Snap or a Colonial Hammer Brand.

That’s a really cool knife! Very unique I think, of course very nice quality and patterns!
