Hubertus Shell Puller Restoration Required!

Post by Yuley »

Evening all,

So a few years back I inherited a Hubertus Springer Shell Puller. It’s seen better days and needs a full restoration. Back in 2016 I spoke at length with Bill about getting the restoration done but unfortunately Bill was unable to help since I live in the UK.
The information Bill provided was invaluable and he helped me identify the knife and gave it a rough date of 1950-1960’s.
I’m looking for someone who is able to carry out the repairs, keeping in mind my location. I’d love to get this knife back to its original glory. The knife still springs out but is very loose when locked out and the blade doesn’t fully close back into the handle. Also the handle is very very worn. Bill diagnosed as requiring ‘complete rebuild- including a new backspring and kick-spring’ along with new handles, refinish and sharpen.

Hope you don’t mind me quoting you Bill.

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated. I’ve tried to add a photo but have many more available on request.

Thanks in advance.
Dan.

Hi Dan,
If you do find someone here in the USA to fix it, you might have a hard time getting it back to the UK!
There is a member on this forum (good guy, or should I say bloke) “gravknife” A.K.A. Ian and he lives in the UK. I could be wrong, but I recall he was having one hell of a time getting his automatics knives confiscated / seized by customs. You might want to look him up and shoot him a “P.M.” and see what he has to say.

Here’s a crazy idea.
Maybe you could ask Angelo at 3knives.com if he could restored or if he knows of someone who can.
