Loose safety on a Frank B

Post by SwitchGear »

What’s the process to tighten up the safety on a Frank B?
It will slide “Opened/Closed” turning the knife upsidedown...
Is there an easy repair?

Thanks
Chad

Wrap some dental floss under the safety button.

The only permanent (till the next time it loosens) repair is to take the scale off and bend the safety till it functions properly. But, dental floss works and it’s a lot cheaper.

That little twister tool is real smart. Did you come up with that?

I wish I remembered who to give credit but it wasn't me who first came up with it.

One thing I have done is to take an exacto knife or razor and cut the safety slot a little bit longer. Then that little longer part holds the safety in place because it is much thinner than the rest of the slot.

The bending tool-like the dental floss fix, is only temporary.

Isn't there some thing you can do with Super Glue? Like you put Super Glue on a tooth pick and run it along the slot to make it thinner? I've heard people talk about that. Though, it always seemed kind of risky.

The safety slot on a modern Italian knife is not what offers resistance. The curve of the safety itself under the scale is what should offer resistance.
But since the safeties are necessarily made of low carbon steel, they don't keep their tension.
Yes, you can tinker with putting glue in the slot, but again-it's a temporary fix.
Modern safeties pretty much suck.

Me too, bought a frank b gold swinger with stunning black horn. Brand new from AGA came with a broken safety.

Yes Bill! Also I find in my humble opinion that the safety on the AGA 13 inch limited edition wasp body picklock has the most quality safety I’ve ever scene. It’s like a raised heavier button. Question, this is the limited edition flat guard. One of my favorite knives but. The blade peeks out a tad. The kick spring seems a little on the weak side. I would love to send you this flat guard and get some adjustments made on it. I heard these are extremely rare knives. Only 60 made! Thank you for your time Bill.
