Presto authorized repair!

Post by Bill DeShivs »

Bill DeShivs has just been authorized as a George Schrade/ Presto Knife co.

That makes us authorized by:
Hubertus
Grafrath
Kuno Ritter
Latama (old and new)
Colonial
Kabar
Mauro Mario
Presto
Venier (Lepre)
I'm proud.

I saw a nice little Presto on line yesterday. If only I could afford to buy it and have Bill restore it. (I really appreciate little autos that lend themselves to pocket carry).

Not limited to Hubie autos 8)

Bill I hope you don't mind if I step in a bit. I looked for the original thread but couldn't find it.
Had to dig deep to find the old pics of this piece of crap Hubie I found on eBay for eight bucks.
I just wanted it because it had the old Hubertus tang stamp. After some thought I said heck let Bill breathe some life into it.
Bill actually was excited and was happy to work it over. (some kind of weird plastic/bakelite?)

I apologize to Bill because my photography does no justice to how exquisite the final outcome of this train wreck turned out.
This is a large knife (3 3/4" blade/5" closed) but very thin and if you have handled a Puma and felt the silky smooth open/close action with a killer snap when the blade hits home then you know what this knife is about. Zero play, tight all around and shave sharp.
Steel liners, brass bolsters,Hubertus tang stamp and I told Bill I love "domed" pins and he obliged.
Not positive but I think he used cocobolo? (rosewood?)
Doesn't matter the knife is 100% better than the day it was sold. Thank you Bill. I have over 150 knives and this is one most people are drawn to.

Had it almost two years and it still lies next to my computer,I handle it almost every day,the "new" never wears out for me. I love it.
It's one of those knives with such sweet action you just can't stop opening/closing it. Cheers Bill

(If the term elegant ever fit a knife it would be this one)

Thanks, Viking!
I enjoyed that job. It's cocobolo wood.

Got carried away and forgot to say congratulations Bill on the Schrade contract. Outstanding addition to an already impressive line-up.

Not sure I mentioned this Bill but right after I got the knife back from you I contacted the ebay seller and sent pics of the finished product.
He was thrilled to see it.
He is mostly a used knife seller, who knows he may own a flea market or pawn shop but always has lots of old cool stuff for sale.
