Bill, or other experts. Is there a reason for the buttons of stiletto's more upwards through the decades?
Just curious.

Taller buttons?
They give more "throw room" for the mechanism. It also decreases the chance for the button to bind in the scale hole.
I have never noticed more modern stilettos having higher buttons than old ones, though.

Sorry for my English, The fire button on older stiletto's (Edwin Jay for example) seem to me like they're placed more towards the midlle of the handle.

I see.
On the older stilettos, a different button mechanism was used. It was a longer lever, hinged on a fulcrum in/on the liner. Making the lever longer increased the leverage applied to the button.
Modern stilettos use a different mechanism. I don't have pictures handy to show the differences, but maybe someone else here does.
