About the "springer" stamp on the base bolster of some knives...

Post by Fishtail Picklock »

When it comes to the German lever-lock knives, was the "Springer" stamp exclusive to a certain line, a marketing ploy, or ts/was it a German name for an automatic knife?

It's a name for an automatic knife- usually of the same pattern.

I don't know the answer.
I have seen very old, pre WW2 knives marked "Springer."
I have seen many companies' knives so marked. I have seen other patterns also marked "Springer."
And, I have seen more of the standard pattern stamped with the marking than without.

The Chinese have knocked off just about every famous Italian design going, wonder why they haven't jumped onto the Springer bandwagon?? Yes there's the second rate version of the Hubertus Guardian but ends there. Bet one pops up sooner or later.

No, there is an Asian clone of the Italian Massaro leverlock- which is a "Springer" pattern.

Bill is correct about a China copy of the Italy version. The ones I have seen are not miss marked with any company name. There were shell puller China made copies out a few years ago marked GOM....

Wow! This is brand new 2022, with the lever hole all the way through and bolster stamped SPRINGER? I was under the impression that the new OTTER made Hubertus had the solid lever. (?)

Expand the picture and look at the lack of quality of the SPRINGER stamping. Looks like a kid did it, S L O P P Y. Spring end is also popped up on top of the bolster. Bolsters also have ridges like original knives. A Big Horn version was also listed.
