Pivot Pinstock

Post by javacupper »

If I am mangling an Italian stiletto and need to replace the pivot pin, what material pinstock should I use?

All the Italians I have use nickel silver pivot pins.

All of the modern Italian knives use steel pivot pins. Turn a common nail down by chucking it in a drill. File it down until it EXACTLY fits the pivot hole in the blade.

Thanks for the reply. I was given these 2 AKC knives to mangle because they both have several fit and finish problems that will require me to completely disassemble them. I have peened scale pins and pivot pins on kits, and replaced pins with pivot barrels but I haven't replaced any pivot pins themselves and didn't know what materials to use.

Steel, brass, or nickel silver are all appropriate.
