Bad Candy and Good treats

Post by jerryk25 »

Well, My brother went shopping to a new store called "Grandpa Joe's Candy"
and got a bunch of standard stuff. . .

Zots . .candy cherries with fizzy powder inside. . ..
Popcorn flavored Jelly Beans. . .
Giant Tootsie Rolls like in the old days. . .(still good - although the new recipe, not as dark and chocolatey)
Little hollow bread wafer flying UFO saucers with tiny sugar beads rattling inside.

BUT. . . . .
He saw a pile of KitKat bars on sale - buy one get one free. . . .

THEY WERE SEAWEED FLAVER. . . . . .uuugh . . . . not "sushi" seaweed with fish . . .just the seaweed
Too many years cutting the lawn . . . . I don;t associate that scent as a food stuff.
(even thou I love fried dandelions)

Japan has long been selling banana, Mango, Tangerine, Lemon, Strawberry, Cherry, and others. .
But the USA doesn't make or market them. . . .I don't know why.

also, on a lighter note. Strawberry & chocolate dipped "Owls"
Not my photo. . .but I wish I had seen this 30 years ago . . .
I would have made them for the Library Kids reading program picnics.

Hi Jerry,
Awesome stag on you flat guard!
Those owls are adorable!
Back in the 80s I made friends with a Japanese woman. She would have her family send her shrimp, fish, seaweed, flavored crackers. I had no idea what I was putting into my mouth the first time I tried one. I have to say I was somewhat repulsed thinking I was biting into a typical American snack. What a surprise! It’s one of those things we Americans have to acquire a taste for at least I had to anyway.
I like the idea of fruit flavored KitKats. I miss the days when you could walk to the corner store when I was a kid and for a penny buy a bunch of delicious candy like those flying saucers.
