Watched the old Western "Top Gun" a few nights ago and found this actor interesting so looked around to find more information about him.
I knew who he was but knew nothing about him.
Saw the Godfather a 100 times but never knew he was the crooked cop Michael shoots in the throat and then forehead.
It's a man like this that makes me forget about a person's politics but look deeper into the intellect and life experience.
Sterling Hayden. Fascinating man. Please watch these interviews and give your opinion.
For me I am just intrigued buy listening to him speak and his mannerisms as he tells of his travels and acting.
Really would like some feed back so I know it's not me that thinks this is a cool cat.
This is the one that grabbed my interest.

Re: A Fascinating Man
He was fascinating but also troubled. It apparently took Francis Ford Coppola some time to convince Sterling that he could do the part of the police captain. His insecurity was debilitating. I suspect he was also manic / depressive as is indicated by his performance in the interviews.
I think the best movie he made was The Killing. If you get a chance to see this early work by Kubrick, do so. It is an incredible film for a mid 50's B movie. There are also some other interesting actors in that flick, Vince Edwards, Elisha Cook Jr, and the amazing Timothy Carey.
