A very happy labor day to all, fire up those grills, get that church key out and start popping some caps
Polish a knife, cook a pig, drink several beers

It's Labor Day Eve here, a Sunday and churches are all open. No keys required.tequiza wrote:A very happy labor day to all, fire up those grills, get that church key out and start popping some caps
For Monday, on the other hand, the classic church key may come in handy...

I'm wondering if any of our younger members know what a church key is

A long time ago a bottle opener would be referred to as a church key, but only Cool dudes could call it a church key.

How right you are John, I remember the days if you didn't have your church key, you didn't get that can of beer open!

Speaking of bottle openers,as a teenager I worked at a printing company loading massive paper rolls on the printer using a forklift.
This company had two huge Heidelberg (German made) printers, one was pretty old, the other from the 70's.
One day I saw something mounted to the machine by the control panel where the operator stands.
As I got closer it looked like a small bracket holding a bottle opener. I asked the guy running the printer and said "It is a bottle opener".
Not an ink bottle/can opener, it was a soda/beer bottle opener. It is possible there is a thinner or cleaner that used the same kind of bottle cap(?)
So I went and looked at the older printer and it had one too. Only the Germans would feel the need for a bottle opener while running a machine capable of swallowing a man.

I was a senior print buyer. I visited many printing plants saw lots of presses but never a bottle opener. The pressman kept in his pocket. Once the press is up to color and it’s running it can be kind of boringl. The only thing a press one has to do is to check a few sheets every now and then to make sure everything is OK. A bottle will certainly helps pass the time away. Especially on the overnight shift.
