I used to love my older british cars and had a few, a ford escort mexico crossflow 1600 ,and a vauxhall chevette 2.3 magnum when i was a lot younger..
I too like older cars but im not familiar with the American ones even though my brother had a camaro and a cobra jet......when he turned the key on that thing he went white it was 7.5 litres massive in english standards.
Heres a few pics of nice british cars.
I know fords are American but i class these as British fords.. as i think they were made for the british roads, i dont know wether you have escorts ,cortinas and capris over there ,so please put me straight if im wrong on this as i love these cars.
1. Jensen interceptor 4.2
2 Aston martin db9
3 ford capri 3.5 monster

Re: Cars?
While I admire muscle cars and exotic sport vehicles, there are few places around here, actually none, that let them show their true speed and handling potential without running afoul of the law. That given, I'm more partial to older, way more comfy machines of a different age.

I don't have any pics of them but back in the good ole days, ( mid 60's to mid 70's ) I had a couple of 61 Vettes, A 57 Chevy, 4 speed trans, 283, with lots of goodies in it, and a 68 Camaro,396,400 turbo trans, sure do miss those days!!!

Re: Cars?
They sure don't make them like they used to. The cars from the 60s had a lot of style.

Re: Cars?
I had a 67 GTO like the one in Vikings pic. It wasn't as nice, it was well used and a rare 3 speed model. I ran it in the ground and had girls crying they were so scared. Young, dumb, and thought I was invincible. I've been in more car and motorcycle wrecks than I can remember. Guess it just wasn't my time to go. The GTO ended up in a junk yard, what a shame!

Re: Cars?
Ian we had the Capri and I find this pic interesting because it says "Ford" but unless I am way off I thought the US version was made by Mercury. (1974-1977)
America has had it's share of oddballs, the Mercury Bobcat, Ford Fiesta (I think was made in Germany) was the short lived Festiva (?)
This piece of crap looks like it's straight off the streets of Moscow
On to real automobiles. The 1963 Jaguar is quite possibly my all time favorite car. We lived in a rural town as a small child and the town doctor drove one like this, same color. Although I was a wee one in 1966 /67 I will never forget trips to town and seeing the doctors Jag sitting under a car port.
Ever since then that profile has been embedded in my memory.
It seems many of my favorites come from 1963, Corvette, Riviera and of course the Jaguar.

I love that capri .
Thwre was also the cortina ,the granada and the fiesta.
Jaguars are beautiful also. The E types are hard to drive my brother had one in the 70s and the bonnets long for small English roads,it would be a nightmare on todays roads here as there are just too many drivers.
Have you heard of the british TVR cars hand made in Blackpool our poor attempt at las vegas.
Heres the new fiesta ,its a mix of America and Britain .I have a new Ford myself and its a great car.
Hope your all well

Re: Cars?
The 1971 - 74 Capri, as well as the 76 - 77 Capri II, was made by Ford in Germany and sold by Lincoln Mercury. I had a '72 with the 6 cylinder engine and a 4 speed. While it was fun at first, too many things went wrong, generator, starter motor, front seat latch cable broke making the back seat difficult to enter, brake problems, all 5 tires had bubbles, etc. etc. Spent so much time at the dealer's shop everyone there knew the car. A classic lemon.Viking45 wrote:Ian we had the Capri and I find this pic interesting because it says "Ford" but unless I am way off I thought the US version was made by Mercury. (1974-1977)

I am unsure if its the 35a or 37.
It's had all sorts of parts built for it and modified .It isn't totally original but as near as possible with the rarity of these cars now.
He is the car specialist of my family ,I'm the weapons lover ......he's rich and I'm poor .
I absolutely love those old cars you posted ,reminiscent of the gangster cars i've seen in films ,the top white is just stunning
I hope your keeping well natch.

Re: Cars?
Yes, that is the one I currently own. At one time or another I owned the other two as well, but they are in other hands now. In truth the 110 with 6 cylinders is much more like a modern car insofar as suspension and general operation are concerned. I installed a correct over driver transmission and the car easily keeps up with highway traffic.jim d, wrote:David,

The '33 was also advanced. It had vacuum assisted brakes adjustable as to effort needed on the pedal, a suspension that was adjustable as to firmness of ride, an automatic clutch that only required me to move the gear lever - all these controlled by switches or dials on the dash. It was, however, a bear to steer at slow speed. Parallel parking was a workout.
The 12 was an impressive beast weighing in at some 3 tons. The windshield frame was cast bronze. It too had assisted brakes, and it needed them!
