It occurs to me that God has provided an overlooked up side to this mess. While prowling the hallways of Kansas University Hospital, I've found it nearly impossible not to stare and drool at how SMOKIN' HOT some of those student nurses are.

I've read and re-read scripture numerous times and have found nothing that forbade leering at God's fine creations!

Chris...You remind us all that the superficial day to day complaints and worries can, all of a sudden, be something that we would trade it all to get BACK to. One could only wish to have the strength to get through a tragedy that you and yours are enduring. Stay strong our friend. Many thoughts are with you.

Hey Sammy! Last night I posted a very detailed update on her condition, Its on page 3 of this thread, Sharon is in surgery as we speak, so I'm rushing out the door to get to the hospital. They weren't supposed to start on her until 11am, but you know hospitals and doctors. Time isn't always the first thing on their mind. :)

Don't ya know it, Nr, Jules. One minute you're tooling down the fast lane of life with the top down, and the next thing you see is the ass-end of a dump truck filled with gravel just as your plowing into its back end,

Seems like change is the only constant in life. Sure makes me want to hide under a rock somewhere, only venturing outside because you smell Tequiza firing up his smoker!

Gawd I could go for, an ice old Corona with lime about now, but its only 9:30am.

Chris,
My thoughts and prayers are with you for a full recovery for your better half, if nothing else she's gonna get better just to keep you in line!

Sure wish I could fire up the smoker to send you a big slab of bacon but I've sold my house here in Ga and the Mrs and I are moving to Guam and we'll be leaving on Monday the 19th, tell ya what though, once Sharon is all healed you can both come over to Guam and bask in the warm sand and sunshine, Nancy has a 3 bedroom condo over there so your covered for a place to stay and eats, plus the folks over there LOVE to cook hogs so several slabs of smoked bacon will be no problem!

Once I get set up over there I'll be back on the forum, and Dave (AKA) ILS has my address over there.

Again, lots of thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for Sharon!!!

Chris, the stiletto encyclopedia,
I can relate to the opioid abuse, I too once had an issue. Too bad they are addictive, I would still be on them. I can also relate to what your feeling. I lost my (2nd) wife to cancer. Just as hard on you, I am not underestimating her condition, but you need to take care of yourself also. She is going to need you. Seems like the couples that really love each other always have something like this happen. Couples that just tolerate never have this dealt to them. Just take it one day at a time and keep the love strong. It will workout in long run. Stay in touch and bless you both.

Pete: This is the most heartbreaking news I've read in months ...... Mr. Tequiza has had to move, leaving his smoker behind. Worse than having one's entire spring-steel collection stolen. But if I judge you correctly, there will be an even bigger, better smoker in your future. I can still taste the bacon you sent years ago. Finest smoked bacon ever made - consumed in one sitting! :D

Oh and worse yet......meat exports from Guam are routinely seized by US Customs, as are most agricultural items. What are they afraid of? People getting fat (like me)? And thanks for the generous invite, but my overseas travelling days are probably over.

The 2nd surgery scheduled for this past wednesday was cancelled - short notice.Newest films revealed her healing hadn't progressed to the point where the surgery was an option. No new estimates at this point other than further extending her hospitilization and waiting.

The bright side: This gives me additional time to clean house. Problem is that I can't get a backhoe thru the doorways. This is what happens when 1 man and 2 cats are left to live together for too long.

At the age of 74 I thought my traveling days were over too Chris, so you never know, and yes, there will be another smoker over there, not as big but able to smoke two large pork bellys and lots of fish, i'll look into sending you some smoked wahoo if I can't send the bacon!

Anyway, tell Sharon the both of you have a free place to stay in a sunny paradise once she heals up, it might give her something to think about to help ease her pain. at this point in time any little thing helps!

Sorry to hear about the setbacks on the surgery but the Doc's know best, most of the time anyway, thoughts and prayers go out everyday for a speedy 100% recovery!!!

BTW, I don't think mentioning the backhoe to her for cleaning the house is a good idea!

Thanks, Thom!

Unfortunately, even when used properly to control pain, dependence can result quickly. I've fought it off twice, once following a bad foot fracture several years ago (dilaudid), and an earlier occurence in 2000 involving post-op pain in my neck, arms and hands as a result of two adjoining herniated cervical discs they had to remove (morphine, fentanyl, Oxycontin and later Methadone - most folks aren't aware of Methadone's use as a pain-killer). Like Sharon, I knew going in where it was going to lead, but the alternative of laying there in 24/7 agony just wasn't an option, for me or her.

My dependence was medically managed with a pain specialist and I assume Sharon's will be as well. I took 4 months to taper off the meds, but in the end, I came out clean and sober. Thank god I never liked alcohol, as folks who mix their poisons have a really tough go of it. I still live in fear of taking so much as a Vicodin following a root canal, but now manage to take meds as ordered with no problems. Still, the itch is there now and again, but I've managed not to scratch. Sharon watched me go thru that hell and was very supportive. Without her influence, I wouldn't be here to tell the tale.

Now the pendulum is swinging in the other direction. People in severe pain are being urged by Mr. Sessions to try taking a couple of aspirin, to deny their pain and to live in agony. Doctors have gone totally twitchy over the mere mention of opiates or opioids, fearing governmental interference with their licensing or right to practice medicine. Funny thing is that most of the opioid deaths that are so often quoted in the press involve illicit supplies of Fentanyl (imported illegally from China) that are often sold as heroin once it hits our streets. Sounds more like a Customs than a DEA problem to me.

I never intended to speak publically on the drug issues, but now that I have, anyone needing info, support or just a bud to talk to about it is welcome to contact me via PM. Be sure to include your REAL email address so that we can bypass Talkblade. While TB is a great place to make friends and converse about knives, its probably not a proper venue for this topic.

I'm stuck at home this weekend. Some old lady (barely able to see over her dashboard) made an un-signaled left turn across my path yesterday. My choices: T-bone her or swerve wildly, striking a curb at 40mph. I chose the Curb and the old lady kept right on going, totally oblivious. My Eclipse now sits in the shop with $800 of front-end repairs pending. Wonder what sort of shitty thing I did to deserve that sort of karma?
