WHAT ATTRACTS SPAMMERS TO OUR SITE?

Do you want to talk about your beautiful country, family, or dog? Would you like to say where you went on holiday or how you arranged the garden? Are you willing to tell us you girlfriend left you for a(nother) loser? Do you have ANY non knife-related topic you want to discuss? This is the place!

WHAT ATTRACTS SPAMMERS TO OUR SITE?

Post by redeye »

I am just stumped at the amount of time these spammers put into invading our inner sanctum. If we dont ever buy from them why do they even bother to post the crap? i dont understand why this method of marketing would even be feasable to do even if they were selling knives. I mean we are a knife siote so why would they think we wanna buy blood pressure meds or Egyption viagra? lol it just makes me scratch my head and wonder WTF

I believe they have computer "bots" that do the work for them, "hitting" many sites/boards faster than we can nuke them
If only one person buys anything they have made a profit.
Read a lot - learn a little.
Read a little - learn enough to "bluff" like you really knew a little

It is relatively easy to join this forum, part of the friendliness I guess. Spammers find that a plus. As Mr. V notes, there are bots or scripts that these guys buy to post on open forums. Other hoops can be installed through which prospective members would need to jump. For example, ever run into a site that asks you to key in numbers and letters that are shown bent and distorted in a text box? That kind of thing.

Mr. Cat-A-Capitan,

The mods have deleted over 300 spam posts the last few days. Unfortunately, we cannot all be here all the time. I hereby nominate you for a mod post. Anybody who can launch a sea going cat ship from the Arizona desert has all my blessings.

Best regards,

Bonz

The mods are limited to deleting post, ONLY the Administrator can stop this
We COULD edit the posts but that won't stop them, and takes longer.
Sometimes that is FUN with a REAL person doing the posts but, this is a bot/program :(

I figured only Arthas could delete an account Al. I wish y'all could delete accounts when it comes to spammers though.

Gentlemen,

As much as Mr. Arthas would like, he cannot turn admin power over to the mods. That's the only way we could zap trolls out of the system, only he can do it. It's one of the reasons we went from just Mr. Arthas and our Sainted Mr. Pushbutton to the Motley Crew.

Best regards,

Bonz
