HAPPY BIRTHDAY.......EVERYBODY!
Thanks, Jim, for posting this. Thank you all for the kind comments.
Jerr, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you, will PM after I get home from work.
Truth is, I'd love to limited-mass produce custom knives. The time I must put into them makes them too high priced, I think. Since I'm at my job right at the moment, I'll call a laser shop in town, like I've been meaning to do for some time, and see if I can get back to checking on farming out some of the parts. They'd still be custom knives, but I think I could save a lot of time starting with the parts blanked out instead of making everything from scratch.

HEY What happened to the Chinese/Taiwanese clones that I was promised to be first in line for? Surely that is more important than hand-producing a few shining examples of expert craftsmanship...tr4252 wrote: Truth is, I'd love to limited-mass produce custom knives. Tom ,
Where did you buy your turqouise ?
I ordered a set from north coast knives and recieved them today.
They are supposed to be composite stone ,but feel more like plastic.
I want to scale a massaro old fashion with them .
I saw them listed at texasknives ,but bought the others because the size was more of what I needed.
thanx

Hi Cowboy,
I got that set from Texas Knifemaker's Supply, and Jantz has the same material. I'm pretty sure they use real stone, but the resin that bonds it smells like fiberglas resin when I saw or sand it.
If you're interested, these guys seem to be the manufacturers; they have a lot more varieties than the supply houses, and are willing to send small samples too.

Tom , Thanks .... It seems that I did get the same material.
once I started working with it I realised that it is indeed ground up stone and resin.
You can't miss the smell
I think it's gonna work out better than I thought , works alot like a combo of working with fiberglass and cuts and polishes more like ceramic tile.
Thanx again for your reply ...
hopefully I'll have some out of focus pics in a couple days.
