What should I buy (camera)?

Post by Mr_Guano »

Reason I'm asking is that I tried to just put the knife on the
scanner, 'cause I don't have a digicam...

Do any of you guys have suggestions on cameras?

However, the scanned pic is below for referance. (not very good quality)
maybe I should downsize it a little too?

The knife was made by my grandfather many years ago.

I reccomend that you downsize it a little, I use a very high resolution so big pics don't bother me, but it still toak up alot of the screen. Very nice knife, was the blade hand ground?

Hi
Downsized pic below.
Original size pic still above (for those interested in finding flaws in the carving).

I forgot to say: I think he bought the blades and bolsters for his
knives from some external source, and did the woodwork himself.

edited to add: He also made the sheath, of course.

Was the blade hand ground?
I don't even know what that means... so I dunno. maybe?

Handground means the first edge is put on by hand (using a stone), most knives are sharpened on a Grounder.

Mr. Guano,

Don't buy any digital with less than 2 mega-pixels, 3 is better. Mine is 2.2 and works good enough for me. It's a Toshiba PDR-M25 with a Smart Media card. Also, if you're going to take a lot of pics, get the rechargable batteries and charger. It will pay for itself real quick.

Best regard's,

Bonz

Bought myself a Fuji 2.2, excellent camera. Even can record small movies depending on the smart card capacity. Bonzo is correct, anything under 2 mega pixels is not worth it.

Thanks for opinions on cameras, I'll go browsing stores today!
I need some better pics than these...!

As for hand ground blade; I don't think so, at least my grandfather
didn't grind it by hand himself. The blades on other knives he left
behind when he bit the dust had a tang stamp that says N.E.S.
I guess it was a buddy of my grandfathers who made the blades
in a way that they were easy to handle when installing, and my grandpop
just did the polishing and final sharpening. But I'm just guessing here.
I really don't know. Maybe you guys can figure it out when/if I post
some better pics of the knives.
