hey guys - dan chua just emailed me with a few corrections from my description above....he wrote....
this is definately the coolest knife i own - my wife even likes it
so there you have it - time to get out the sharpening stone!BTW, I saw the thread on TB. I need to point out a few corrections
there.. The blade IS one-of-a-kind, in a sense that it's the first and
only balisword kris blade I have made personally.. But a kris
balisword isn't a one-of-a-kind thing, coz they have been made along
with regular baliswords for years now.
I supplied the materials to the makers for the handles, as I don't
have the tools to bend very thick brass sheets for the frames, without
breaking them in half (hehe).
That sword is differentially tempered, meaning it has a hard edge but
a soft middle spine. You can practically slap it on something without
fear of damaging it, as the softer spine will take the brunt of
vibrations and not shatter.
You can also sharpen it a lot more, as I never really placed a good
sharp edge on it, for fear of our old pals over at Customs.
this is definately the coolest knife i own - my wife even likes it
