Little Mauro Mario from pawn shop
Just picked this up a couple hours ago at a local pawn shop. 6 3/8in open, D stamped liner. fires great and locks up like a bank vault! That's the good, the bad is safety doesn't work, crack on front scale and chip on back, few little spots and swish marks on blade but not bad. Blade is full, was very, very lightly sharpened but you have to look really hard to even see it. All in all pretty nice little knife. They were asking $350. I got for $180. Probably too much but I like it.

That was a good buy. I like it. I have to get you to do all my negotiations.

Thanks Thom. This is only my third vintage picklock. They thought it needed work because the blade wouldn't close when they pushed the button. They also had a white handled Rizzuto in decent shape for $200. that I passed on.

Jesus christ you got them to go from 350 to 180? Teach me your secrets, master!
I've never seen this iteration of a Mario stamp (not that I'm well-versed in them) - lovely dark scales!
I'm jealous where I sit! That is a sweet little knife, hold it dear and don't part with it!

Well dang, I'm feeling better and better about this all the time. Does anybody know if this is an uncommon or rare stamp for a Mario?
As for my secret...
#1...play up every flaw in the knife no matter how small.
#2...act like you're not that interested because this "brand" of knife is common as dirt.
#3...be incredibly good looking with a winning personality.
#4...flirt like hell with the lady who runs the shop.
No problem.

#1 and #2 I do often, #3 however will require plastic surgery and copious amounts of psychiatric drugs, luckily being a citizen of the Socialist Republic of Massachusetts, I should be able to pull both of those off on the cheap...pappy57 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 4:27 pm Well dang, I'm feeling better and better about this all the time. Any pointers for the probable situation in which it's a grouchy old man who knows what he's got?
In all seriousness, I applaud the transparency of your post - this can be a sensitive subject for some people (or even taboo!) but I think posts like this are helpful to newer collectors so they can get a feel for realistic prices. Certain places on the internet can leave a newbie thinking that almost anything vintage is out of reach.

Seriously.... nice score! Was the Rizz the 11" size? Shoulda got 'em to drop to $75 and bought it.....

Re: Little Mauro Mario from pawn shop
No, not 11in. 9? 9 1/2? Not too familiar with Rizzys. Shoulda took some pics.

Total Score,…. Any Mario,… is a win,win!
