Very unique mechanism Jndiana flat grind “bolster release” switchblade 9’ stag horn

Post by picklocksrock »

This Switchblade doesn’t have a button and uses a very unique twin pin mechanism that releases the blade by pressing down on the bolster swivel. The same action also closes it! I was pleasantly surprised to see how great the action is on this switchblade. Very solid all around.

I had one of those years ago. For some reason they didn't go over that well.

That's cool, never heard of it. Thanks for sharing. Is there a name for that type?

All I’ve seen is it’s called “bolsters release switchblade”
Thank you Thom.

I always liked them. I still have a dark horn one somewhere.

I have a brass bolster, wood handle one. Functions very well. Definitely available, not sure of value.

I might be interested in an 11" one if anybody has one they could part with.

I am told they are referred to as "two pin" knives because the blade tang has a lock pin on each side. One holds it open, the other holds it closed.

I don't believe these came in any size but 9". Could be because the larger the knife, the larger the blade and the spring needed to properly deploy it. That would put more pressure on the bolster release making it difficult for many to use.

If I'm wrong, please let me know if you have a bigger one for sale!

I would be interested in a 9" then. Prefer 11", appears they were not made. Do they have N/S bolsters? I really like the darkhorn whippersnapper posted.

The couple I have owned were stamped stainless bolsters.

Other than a few on auctions, the only place I have seen them for sale in years is the knifeshop in Austria. Looks like they still have tulip wood and stag.
