Vintage Pocket Knife That Needs An Approximate Value

Post by barshoo »

Hi everyone,

I am posting these pictures for a friend who owns this knife. I am seeking to find out whether this pocket knife has any significant value. I am not an expert when it comes to vintage knives. THIS one is over 45 years old...he got it from a friend that long ago, and it was old then. It is not in good shape, but I need to find out whether it is worth attention. It is 10" long, and the scales are acrylic, or plastic:

That looks like one of those "melon" knives... don't know anything about them though... sorry. I hope someone here does.

It would be helpful to know what, if anything, is stamped on the tang.

There IS a tang stamp, but it is so small, and so illegible!! I have used a magnifying glass, a powerful one, but it is so SMALL and faint!! It looks like I can see an "A" and "11"...

Barb
I believe Kugr may be correct and this is a melon knife or fruit knife/Melon tester.

I have a german advertising example with the kissing cranes logo ,3rd from right on group pic)and I think your freinds is either french or German.
There are Case examples and many other makers aswell .
I see them like mine for around 20 dollars plus on ebay and my example was with a group of knives I got from France very cheap.
Your freinds may be worth more being a bit older but not damaged like it is.
I am not very good at values Barb as knives in the US are sometimes cheaper than in Europe.

Hope your well

Thank you gravknife!! I will let my friend know that it is a common melon knife. I haven't seen one in about 50 years, so I did not recognize it. I have family down in Florida that has a grove of grapefruit trees. I was last there when I was 8 years old, and that is when I saw them. Thank you for looking and identifying it! :D
