Starting the New Year Off Right with a PLP

Post by Corvus »

Just landed this little 8" Frosolone by Pat Havlin. I've been searching for one o' Pat's knives for quite a while now, and the search finally paid off. This is a minty-fresh example from 2012. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Thanks, Chris. Yeah, I do the same thing. When an interesting knife gets grabbed, I always wonder who the lucky sumbitch was. When it comes to Italian stilettos and their variants, we're a pretty small community, so odds are it'll show up on the forums sooner or later. :)

Thanks again.

I can't get over the workmanship on this little guy. I'm no stranger to fine custom knives, but it's kind of surreal to examine what at first glance appears to be a traditionally-constructed Italian classic built with this level of attention of the smallest detail.

I was also pleasantly surprised that the blade is hollow-ground and has such a deep mirror-finish. That's the kind of detail you really need to appreciate in person. Photos don't do it justice, though I tried to capture the grind and finish with some carefully placed reflections. That hollow grind adds a lot of liveliness and depth to the appearance of the blade.

The horn is probably the nicest in my collection, too, and it's so nice to be able to run your fingers over the scales without the pins distracting from the flowing contours. They feel like they grew right out of the horn.

What a gorgeous knife! I can only hope to someday add a Havlin to my collection.
