Weidmannsheil & Hubertus Stag

Post by texans123 »

Hi Gents -
Here are a couple of my favorite German lever release autos. The Weidmannsheil is 8 inches, and the Hubertus is just slightly shorter at a bit over 7.75 inches. Both fire and lockup very nicely.

Notice that everything is exactly alike on them?
Both were made by Hubertus.

Interesting Bill. Did they only make the autos for Weidmannsheil, or also other non-auto models?

Don't know. There is/was a lot of contracting going on in Solingen.
When Weltersbach was actually in business, they made their own knives. After they closed down, whoever owns the name had these made.

I recall reading Weidmannsheil closed shop around 1991 or so. Given that my example has West Germany on the blade, I think it could be a Weltersbach produced auto. As we know, November 1989 Germany was reunified. As you clearly point out, a lot of similarity in the knifes for sure. But there are some differences such as the lever button and blade length, and the Weidmannsheil is a bit heavier. No doubt that parts were shared between companies when comparing these two examples. Thanks for your input on an interesting subject.
