2018 AGA Abalone Piccolo

Post by john »

Hello Everyone and AGA,
Angelo, great job. Another winner! Thank you for a very cool knife.
This is the second knife I’ve purchased this year. It was kind of an impulse buy. Overall, the Piccolo is a nice little knife. The leather used for the knife’s pouch would make a fabulous leather jacket. The leather so soft and supple and it’s nicely made. If you can palm a basketball with ease, you may find it too small. I can barely palm a basketball; I find it a good fit. It fires hard with a rock solid lock up, tight safety, mechanically it’s awesome. However, my grade is A- on fit and finish. Fit is an A. The finishing could be a little better. Maybe I’m too fussy. A few if the pins are a little bit scratchy B+. The Abalone is beautiful, but the polishing is a B+ under careful inspection I could see what look like brush strokes. I may have made it sound much worse than it really is. I really like the knife. The blade sits deep in the channel. It has a wide soft grind dagger/bayonet blade. I’m not sure what to call it. Unlocking is easy no finger nails needed. Lift up the spheres on the pick lock style release. I imagine a ring or fulcrum could replace the spheres. The knife features a three millimeter stainless steel spring and blade and one millimeter (or maybe 1.2 mm) thick brass liners with nickel silver pins and bolsters. I like how the scales on the butt end of the knife are beveled. I’m not sure why the scales next to the bolsters weren’t beveled. Perhaps it was to improve gripping power.
I’m going to smooth the pins and repolish the scales.
I also picked up a money clip. It’s wicked cool!
Thank you Everyone for stopping by to take a look at the new Piccolo by AGA,
John
PS please feel free to post an image of your Piccolo the more the better.
If I should think of anything else I’ll edit this post.

Last one...

As you can tell, I love these little knives. I hope they make a size slightly larger eventually too.

They are truly all beautiful pieces and AIK does the nice filework. It's a great little knife from A.G.A. Campolin.

Thanks and Agreed!

I would love to see a slightly larger version of this knife. I don’t know if that will happen, but they seem to make most types and styles of switches in various sizes.

I hate to admit that I haven't seen these before, maybe I have been away too long. Those pictures of the abalone are really good! I have always had a hard time getting good pictures that show the depth of the design and the richness of the colors. My pictures usually come out making it look either too fuzzy, out of focus or just plain cheesy. Really nice job on yours.

John, Chris, and Jason,

Thanks for sharing your Piccolo's!! They are all outstanding! I'm going to have 3 - Brazilian Horn Piccolo's available in mid to late November, at a pretty good price. [They are Rick Giroux Commemorative Piccolo's, out of a special 30-knife (different models) run, in case you are interested...] Jason, your Piccolo's are off the HOOK!! AIK does a great job of customizing...especially on the Mammoth Ivory!

JayAK80, that's gotta be some of the most vibrant abalone I've ever seen!

Beautiful knives, everyone! Was thinking about getting a Piccolo in Rick's name, but I'm more of a stiletto guy... Maybe I'll pick up a normal one if I find one at a show or something...
