I hope these work and forgive me if they are too big. They belong to a friend who was wondering if anyone knew any information about them, Any help would help. Thanks again.

Damascus blades + Abalone handles. Nice.

Very pretty - Frank B. Limited 2003 Editions in picklock and lock back swinger?

Stunning Damascus, much better than anything I've seen out of Maniago before. Did you see John's latest post of a 2013 edition?

I guess that wasn't obvious because he has such a generic alias, but go under search and look for member 'john' - that's a unique member name. On SD he is known as John3553.

Here's the specific one I was referring to:

You might also want to join:

I haven't yet checked to see if your alias exists over there. You might try to use the same one that you have used here. It makes it easier to follow what's going on.

Also, you might find this post useful:

Hello, Wheelman;

What are your questions about these knives? They are both really awesome; everything about them is legit (if your concern was that they might be counterfeits, you don't need to worry). The Damascus blade with Abalone scales is the most expensive version of both of those knives. It would raise the price of those from about $100 each to at least $200-$250 each.

It's especially interesting that the swinger has Damascus guards. I've only seen that a few times before.

Just picked up a set of triplets in swing guards. One of them is a Frank B Damascus blade with abalone scales. You have viable pieces, not fakes.

The abalone Frank B covered 3 different facets. Abalone scales, Damascus blade and Swing Guard.

Thank you for your replies everyone, you all have been great helps. From what I have been able to gather the classic and the swinguard came out as a limited run in 2005. I believe the classics were numbered 1 through 20 while the swinguards were numbered 1 through 30. Also, I am fascinated by the blade on the classic. Is it referred to as heat treated Damascus? Or is there a special name for it. Thank you again for all of your help.

It's just a bayonet blade made out of Damascus steel.

Was there anything special done to the metal to give a special coloration?

Damascus steel is traditionally acid-etched to bring out the pattern.

Here's a link to a YouTube video of a fellow using both PCB etching solution and battery acid to etch Damascus steel. He gets much better results with the battery acid (sulfuric) starting at about 8 minutes into the video.
