Vintage Italian Trap Door Stiletto

Post by john »

Hello Everyone,
Vintage Italian Trap Door Stiletto 8.5" OAL, 5" Horn Scales, 3.5" Stailess Steel Swedge Mirror Polished Blade, Bolsters, Button, Safety and Pins, Tang Stamped PATENT over ROSTFRIE, except for bug bites on bottom of the backside scale the stiletto is in very good condition. Fires fast and hard with minimal blade movement. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me the approximate age and who may have manufactured this stiletto. Your comments are welcomed.
Thank you for taking a look,
John

Hello Lars,
I have been looking since Feb of 2010 when I first saw one. A friend who didn't know that I wanted one offered it to me. I hope you get to add one to your collection.
Thank you, Lars, for taking a look and your comment,
John

John; you have an excellent example of one of the "gotta havit's" on my list. I envy the addition to your collection. Greg

Great knife. Great addition to your collection.
The only one I have seen had IRN in a triangle on the tang and were made in Italy in the 1950's but not sure of the exact year. If I was to guess it would say the late 50's.

John,
According to the book, "Switchblades of Italy," those were made in the early 60s and not many have survived. I think you have the Holy Grail of vintage front-opening knives. Congrats on a great score.

Great knife! I had a chance to but one as a teen in Lucerne Switerzland in the 1970s when on vacation with my parents. It was a toss up between an 11" horn standard stiletto, a Bonsa lever opener or this one, and I did not pick this one......Oh well the errors of youth!...I also saw a bunch of them for sale in Rome in St Peter's Square on a push cart full of all different switchblades! ...lol...They are truly rare and very collectable knives!
