What I noticed is that, the hardest thing to do with these stilettos when building them, is incorporating the safety in the scale. Having to make that very thin slot, and not make it too wide or too long. It's a real pain in the butt. Putting a fancy little tab for a button on it, made out of nickel silver or something, shaped a little different then just round. Your fingers can't hold such a little tab, and to file it down to shape it is quit hard to do very well to make a nice safety button. Never mind all the time it takes just for a safety. When just leaving it out is so much easier. And besides, who carries these things anyway! Just put them on a shelf to look at-um, right?
I wouldn't mind putting it on my shelf.
Gramps... With the right tools, it only takes about 10 minutes to install a working safety.
Here's a thread about them....

After all is said and done, I believe the "classic" factory stiletto should have a safety, but, the custom knives.....they don't belong. They are customs, and most often, the safety just clutters up the beautiful scales. My 2 cents!
