German "Campers"

Post by JulesVane »

I love the heft of the German made camper style leverlocks. Here are several I've been happy to acquire over the years. 3 Hubertus W Germany pieces (1 dark etch/ 2 light etch), and 2 stamped Hugo Koller. Notable differences: The Hugo Koller's are a more robust knife with thicker steel. Hubertus used a bottle opener, Hugo Koller, a shell puller. Hubertus used a clip point pen blade, and HK a drop point pen blade. Hubertus with nail nick, HK without. I forget the uses of the cork screws, but it was more than just opening a wine bottle  . I've never held or owned a model with the additional saw blade, but those must be super hefty! Someday!

Disclaimer*: No harm was done to these knives taking photos...only to me! (German knives are sharp!)

Oh yes, Sammie. I never carried a knife, but a leverlock would be my first choice. Well made, usable blade and a positive safety. More of a tool.

Wonderful group, Chris. It is easy to see why you have been happy to acquire them. Thanks for sharing the photos and detailing the differences. Of note is the fact that all 3 Hubertus knives are Ws which are harder to find than the newer models, and any Koller leverlock is a gem, let alone campers. Also of note is the superb condition of each. Like all of the German leverlocks, these were made to be used, and most were used and used and used...

Chris, thanks for the show of your campers, all i can say is that you must like wine, being that all have a corkscrew lol, also a corkscrew is good for untying knots.

Hope your well mate thanks for the pics .

Thanks, Jim, Eric and Ian, for taking a look and the comments. Beer never did me much good, maybe wine was indeed my true calling lol.

I never had any use for a cork screw. When I drink wine I either screw off the top or just break off the neck of the bottle. ;)
