old CAMCO folder info wanted

Post by dogngun »

I found an old CAMCO USA marked single blade folder at a sale and would like any information on it. Blade is carbon steel, about 4.5", thumbnail groove, clip point, and thin. The scales are what I think is Bakelite "ivory", with nickle bolsters and pins, and brass liners.

I think it's 1930's or earlier, but I have been wrong before. Is CAMCO USA related to Camillus? ANY info appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark

Camco was a Camillus brand name.

Yes! There was one. It looked like a lockback, and closed like a lockback. The lockback tab was used to open the knife, too. They seem to be pretty rare- probably because it took two hands to open them. I believe this mechanism was used as an "easy-open" mechanism, without the stigma of a one-hand, switchblade, similar to the Schrade pull-ball.
