Anyone heard of this Victorinox?

Post by Mr_Guano »

A norwegian paper had an article today about a new pocketknife from Victorinox.

It has a memory stick as part of the tools,
and I wouldn't mind having something like this.
I am however unable to find any information anywhere else.
(at first I thought it was april fools day...)

here's a pic from the article:

Any info would be very much appreciated!

It's a mass storage device, typically in the 16 Megabyte (MB) to 256 MB range. Think of it as a super removable disk-like device. A floppy disc can store up to 1.4 MB for the High Density (HD) verisons, so this "memory stick" can hold a lot more stuff in a much smaller package. It's also a lot smaller than a Zip disk (250 MB max. capacity). Instead of being inserted into a disk drive, it connects directly to a USB port on the computer. Most newer computers have such USB ports on the front panel so you don't have to reach around back to connect up. It uses non-volatile (won't lose its contents when the power is removed) semiconductor (chip) memory with some associated circuitry that allows it to interface to the USB port. Lots of electronic storage in a small package. What an age we live in.

In these days, floppy disks are obsolete.
Pendrives (like the one on that knife) hold from 32Mb to a Gb of data.

You put it in your USB on the computer, and it appears as a hard drive.
You can store any type of data on it, from movies to pictures (of knives) and documents.

As it appears from the picture, the one on the knife can hold 128Mb.
That would be around two hours of music, or a few hundred pictures (depending on the quality of the pics).

I use one to bring files to and from school.
128Mb at the size of your thumb! Very practical!
And it would be even more practical if it came with a blade!

Take care,
Gunnar
