Pushbutton is correct about the gambler conection to push daggers. I read that riverboat gamblers favored pushdaggers that could be carried in their vest and snatched out for quick use. Their design was suppossed to give the user some extra reach as the blade came straight out from the middle of the hand rather then having to cock your wrist slighty as in the conventional knife fighters pose.

And no special knife fighting technique was needed, just boxing with somthing extra for the oponent.

Idiot sent me a Safe Keeper III instead of the Safe Keeper II I ordered.

And if my woman should ask ,you all know the answer............."They cost around £5.00!!!"

Hello again, rapidboy1 -

I had the Blackjack knives Highland dirk I & II when they
were still in business back in the late 80's/early 90's. Pushdaggers
have a rich history actually ; they were common on the Mississippi
riverboats ( used by gamblers ) in the mid-late 1800's ( or 19th century )

In the movie Tombstone Doc Holiday uses one quickly to dispatch
an opponent.

Advice : do a Google search for "pushdaggers" or "books on pushdaggers"
and you should get a number of "hits"

Amazon.com I think has some books on the subject as well.

Hi Blood-drinker,
A belated "welcome " ,I see you have been busy on here and posted on several of my threads ,sorry for not responding to your posts but work (an arson attack on one of my customers business premises) has kept me away from TB and everything else lately.
Only 1 push dagger so far (Cold Steel - Safe Keeper III)

I will check the reading material.
I rather fancy the Bowen belt buckle next http://www.bowenknife.com/ .
Cheers

A belated apology for the boldface on my posts/threads
as this old soldier's going bat blind...

The Cold Steel safekkeper is my "to do" list ( Hell, since it
was called Urban pal ( or something like that ) it was! )

I wish Blackjack knives would re-introduce the Highland
dirk I & II

But the Cold Steel's a good compromise while Blacjack think's it over!

I believe it's BlackJack that is over. the Sr Mike Stewart ran that Co into the ground. the Jr works for Marbles last I heard. The blackJacks you see now are put out by Ken Warner who was the editor of the knives annuals from 1981 to 2000 when Krause gave him the boot. He put a few things out with Bud Lang since he had just got the boot from KI. Now Ken runs a Co (Forget the name) that bot rights to the Black Jack name and produces a much better quality knife. When the real Black Jack started it was a quality factory knife towards the end it was a crap shoot what steel your knife came with
