The "steel fairy" came to my mailbox today...

Post by Fishtail Picklock »

And left me a SOG Northwest Ranger Hunting knife! 8) 5.2" of flat grind blade AUS-8 steel with a good Kraton handle (this thing puts me in mind of my two iterations of the USN Mark 1 Deck Knife in which with I am madly in love. ;) This isn't your typical "tacticool" knife, but a slicing/skinning food prep/camping tool. It is so versatile that I would rather strap this to my leg rather than either of my Colonial or Kabar USN Mark1 Deck Knives. I can take this thing our into the damp Pacific Northwest environment without fear of corrosion, yet still, have a razor-sharp edge with sufficient belly to use for skinning. The next time I do "woods walking" with my rifle, you can bet that this jewel will be hooked to my belt.

Life is good.

When I go into the Coast Range I'll take one of three

(a) My old Spanish Mauser in .308 Winchester,

(b) my Ruger ar15 or,

(c) my Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine.
