Robt KLAAS Knife Age,type?
Hello all at TB
I picked up this german Klaas lockback recently .
I have been after this type of knife for sometime after seeing a very similar style of knife owned by
Viking45.
It was a lovely looking Hubertus stamped lockback he bought and had worked on by Bill........ ,i just cant find the picture or topic...if you see this Dave please post the Hubie link here .
I hope someone can help me age this and has some info on this klaas knife. Its only mark is the kissing cranes mid blade and i cant find any other knives like this on the web under klaas ,or german lock knife.
Its a sturdy lockknife with no play and a carbon blade a great pocket knife really .
Any help of age or other examples greatly appreciated .
Regards
Ian

Thanks Sammy
I havnt been around for a while due to hospital stays and no phone or computer access allowed near machines whilst there .
We also have that saying "they just dont make them like they used to" and it applies to this knife well.
Steel liners with brass fittings and hardwood scales ,simple and not much to break.
I hope your well mate thanks for taking a look.

Re: Robt KLAAS Knife Age,type?
In Germany, this brand was often called "der Zweilinge", "the twins", from the two cranes, or "Kissing Cranes". Nice old vintage knife, and a rare piece for sure.
At one time I had a modern version of this knife in the box, and somewhere I have pictures of it. The actual knife has been misplaced. I thought maybe I sent in to Killbucket, but he didn't recall it before he passed. If it went there, it's gone. Or it may be in my office, one of several small objects that have been missing for years.

Thanks for taking a look Dave
I didnt even know there were modern versions available .
Last year i saw an old one in bad condition but it wasnt a KC and the price it went for shocked me ,so i jumped on this one.
Ill bet you had some nice design in mind for your modern example.
It would be a fantastic switch come to think of it ,i wish id have seen your knife come together.
I hope your well mate ,look forward to seeing your new acquisitions and drooling now im back at home.
All the best

You posted pics. of your collection once and I was slobbering all over myself looking at them. I traded off all my Italians except for the customs. I wish I had kept them but interests change and we all have regrets. Hope your better and your hospital stays ore over, almost as bad as a short stay in jail. Take care of yourself!!!

These were called Thumb release by the USA maker GEC , The German ones are made by Otto Messer the makers of the famous K-55 Black Cat knife

That is a beautiful knife Ian. I could not find the old Hubertus thread but I do have all the before/after photos.

Nice work on that last knife! It is a lock back and not a Thumb release, but other wise the same.....

Beautiful knives
Thanks for posting these mate ,i wondered what they would look like with different scale materials.
Are the two in the bottom picture different to the others Tom?The thumb catch is longer and the bolsters look nickle ,nice scales aswell ,are these 2 American examples by GEC.?
Great that they are still for sale aswell ,and still made in Germany .Its dangerous for my wallet on the other hand as they look particularly nice in new state like your examples, and with the white ,stag and lighter wood scales.
I hope your well Tom and thanks for taking the time to post these links and pictures.
Viking45
Thats the knife of yours that started me looking for my klaas.
Its the blade shape and those lovely domed pins complimenting the dark wood. Wood and brass can look as good as any scale material when like this imho.
Thanks for finding it mate ,i absolutely love that knife and its transformation by Bill.
I always thought it was the same type as my Klaas but its a rear lock release but same sleek profile and steel liners ,bolsters and maybe even wood .
I hope alls well with you at home my freind.
Regards

Re: Robt KLAAS Knife Age,type?
Yes the two by them selves are the USA GEC ones. The German ones are nice, but the USA ones are better made. The white handle German one is Camel bone....Your welcome for the pictures and info.
