I believe that's a Gerber mark 2 Vietnam era fighting knife .
Type in the above to find similar knives ,they are quite rare and expensive.
Great fighting knife shape slightly broad leaf at the business end.
Lovely knife and good quality.

Im no expert on these my freind but I typed in gerber fighting knife 1974 and saw examples similar to the knife you posted.
There are reruns of it 70th anniversary knives and one sold for 259 dollars but it looked newer than your example and different markings.
There was one stated as a Gerber vietnam fighting knife 1974 nearly identical to your example sold at 535 dollars but please take a good look yourself and be sure as there may be different models available ,and some may be rarer than others.
I hope these prices give you an idea but only use them as a guide ,as I found them with a quick google.
Its a quality fighting knife at first glance and an excellent sheath ,this was expensive new and ,lethal in the right hands .
The Gerber SN on the blade may be a dating device ,im sure someone with knowledge on American knives can help.
Please post if you buy it I really like it.and good luck .
Ill keep my eyes open for more information for you Stefan and let you know.

Regards
Ian

Glad you got the knife mate. 8)
I am a big fan of the fairbairn sykes as a killing weapon but this gerber beats it hands down with the serrated edge for cutting ropes or bone and thicker tip which often snapped on the FS when it hit bone or rib.
I also love this high quality leather sheath with leg or arm ties attatched ,ill bet a few of these were bought for vietnam and used by Special forces.
This is the FS with all the complaints ironed out.
Great knife my freind ,keep hold of it as these are bound to go up in value even more in the future .
I have a little brother to it but made by herbertz in the 70 s also.It has the steel hilt and similar guard to your Gerber but its not as good quality and only a boot knife.
Thanks for showing the Gerber Stefan its a fairly rare blade.
All the best

Ian

Hello Stefan,
Your Vietnam era knife is fabulous. I love the blade design.
I saw you say that it is not a typical knife for your collection. Contact Gerber they may to be able to give you an idea of what it's worth. In fact they may want it for their collection. Maybe you could sell it at a big profit. If you do plan to sell it, Google military type forums. I'm sure you'll find a buyer.
Good luck,
John

Thank you guys for your help and nice comments. I really appreciate it.
Even if the knife is not typical for my collection I have decided to keep this Gerber because as you say, it is really nice.
