Post by mrbigg »

now that i'm satisfied that i have enough auto's to play with for a while, i've been paying more attention to manual knives.

i'm curious to know which manuals have gotten the rest of you auto freaks excited lately????

My favourite manuals have been the Spyderco Police model and the Emerson CQC7 mini with tanto blade. The French Laguiole was also a favourite carry for many years.
If i had to choose, it would be the Syyderco.

Great post Mr Bigg.
I have been carrying the same knife for 6 or 7 years now and it's the BM Stryker. I have it tweaked to perfection and can open it as fast as any auto and the handle fits my hand in both forward and reverse like it was made special for me. I have tons of manuals some with holes some with studs and discs. The Stryker fits so perfect in the small of my back that I don't even realize I'm carrying it. Plus I then can carry another in my pocket. I have tried rotating with others but find the Stryker is just better. PB

Two words "carbon steel". The French are the only ones that still have numerous makers that feel they must make at least one knife out of carbon steel even if everything else they make is stainless. I believe some Italian makers still make a few carbon steel knives but thay are not as easy to find.

Why is their such a lack of interest in Co's in Carbon Steel. So they are a little extra work to maintain but they take and really hold an edge. The big companies must have done a survey or something and found people were to lazy and all they wanted was SS.

The time you spend fighting rust you save by easier sharpening and better edge holding.

My mom wanted a non stainless high carbon blade(for the kitchen, shes not like dirty gerty  ) and asked me to find it cause all she could find was the stainless stuff... It took a while, but i did... I would really like to find more like it in my folders/autos.

SOG Flash ll SAT assisted TiNi combo edge. In my youth I carried and still do on occasion, a K55. 3 1/2" blade, 7 3/4" oal. A good German made knife that's super thin and very strong.
