18th century straight razor.......

Postby Rey Zhourej » Thu Apr 20, 2017 2:59 pm

Picked this little gem up yesterday at a local antique shop.Stamped,"WOLF ACIER FONDU" the mark of John shepherd of Holles Croft England who was in business from 1770 to 1795. Not sure if the strop/storage case is original to the razor but it is old enough to be.Horn handles have unusual circle designs cut into them. Considering it is 200 plus years old it is in pretty decent shape.

Rey
I absolutely love that straight razor 8)

I have a few newer examples ,but that older shape is the type I love ....like the older wade and butchers ,and your example which hadn't heard of until today.

I love the case /strop also ,looks like its been with this razor a very long time

Thanks for sharing this Rey its an Old rare beauty and that case looks correct to me.
I hope your well mate.

Regards
Ian

Thanks for the kind words Ian;things are doing OK here pretty much. Had to sell one of my vintage wagons to finance a new roof for the house and some of the ills associated with being,"chronologically challenged" are occurring but we're trying to stay on top of it.
The tool sets are mostly marked either "D.R.G.M." or the older,"D.B.G.M." which I believe indicates it is German patented. One is marked simply Germany and another marked Salm who were more famous for their abalone handled pocket knives.
Here is an unusual one made in Japan. The adjustable wrench is the handle for all the other tools.Only one like it I've ever seen.
