Missing stag button

Post by vetkaw63 »

Hi,
I have a couple of vintage stag handled knives. They are missing the nickle/silver buttons on the end of the stag.
Does anybody know where I can find these or have them made?
Thanks,
Mike

You might try a local silver smith, or even a jeweler. They can make you one. These styles of knives, carving sets usually, were very popular in the first part of the 20th century. You might find some pieces with blade problems whose end caps you can use. Check out junk shops, flea markets, garage sales, etc.

In addition to mr natcherly's good advice let me add that any competent knifemaker should be able to do it reasonably and quickly given the suitable materials on hand. It is neither a complicated nor tricky repair.
