Post by Vito »

Have you seen the natural Olive Wood handle knives from Due Buoi Italy.
Do you like them?

Hi Vito,

I'm not sure about olive wood as a handle material for a kitchen knife. A friend of mine produces custom kitchen knives with laminated wood which looks good and works well.

Do you have a relationship with due buoi? Obviously no problem if you do, just curious.

Ho visto due buoi nel negozio del mio amico. Sembrano molto validi.

I spend a lot of time in Italy and I'm part Italian.

Coltelleria Righi in Parma.

The LYON is almost perfect and very beautiful 8)
If I designed the "perfect" knife it would look like hell and no-one would like the way it looks. [not even me ] The Lyon is as close as you can get and still look good

My search engine shows Riboni as distributors for Righi so I'm assuming the Lyon is a Righi but, Riboni may be distributors for others :? If you have a link for Righi please post it

Righi don't have a web site. Just a good, traditional knifeshop where the owners love fine knives. They do make some knives but as far as I know only direct sell. I think they may stock Riboni. This is the Riboni site I found.

I just looked at Riboni's distributors: The ones I recognised are all heavy weights in the business.

Remember I said it would look like hell
I'd start with a Puukko type handle but make the sides of the handle flat, or a least flattened a little. I would use a blade a little wider than a Puukko, more like a classic German Nicker. Add a very slight thumb-rest, for extra leverage when cutting. The end result would be a knife that wouldn't twist in your hand [a Puukko can], a knife that you could tell which way the edge was facing [even in the dark], a knife that lets you apply maximum leverage, and a knife that LOOKS TERRIBLE
